Chris Zaker - Catching Instructor
740-503-7563

PLAYING EXPERIENCE:

As a catcher and infielder, Chris started and lettered on the varsity baseball team for Flat Rock High School (Mi) from 1985-1987.  In his senior year, Flat Rock won the district championships, losing in the semi-final round of the Regionals.  After college, Chris continued his love for the diamond by playing slow pitch softball off and on for the next 20 years, primarily as an infielder.

PLAYING ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Chris earned 2 Player of the Week awards from the Trenton News Herald, a local newspaper from the downriver area (South of Detroit, MI).  In Chris’ senior year, he was voted 1st team All League, and 1st team All District.

COACHING EXPERIENCE:
Continuing his love for the ball diamond Chris began his coaching career in 1998 with a women’s slow-pitch softball team.  Zaker has been coaching girls fastpitch softball ever since the day his daughters (3) showed interest in the game, about in 2007.  Chris is in his 4th year as a coach for a travel Fastpitch team, the last 3 of which have been as the head coach of Ohio Glory ’01.

TEACHING/INSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE:

A student of the game, Zaker has attendedseveral college level seminars; specifically with regards to collegiate catching methods.  Chris has been sharing this knowledge with young athletes since 2007. He began his instructional career as the hitting instructor/assistant coach of a local travel organization in 2010.  Seeing a lack of quality catching instruction in the Lancaster area, Zaker began to focus as a dedicated catching instructor.  Chris has worked one on one or in small groups with dozens of Central Ohio softball catchers from 9-16 years old and helped them develop their catching techniques since 2010.

INSTRUCTION PHILOSOPHY:
“A good catcher can change the momentum of the game with one play.  Good catchers absolutely can change a coach’s strategy.  I focus a lot on subtle things; body angles, footwork, timing, body positions, etc.  I teach the processIf you do the process correctly, the results will come.  That is a promise I make to the kids. When my students complete a lesson or workout, they WILL be a better catcher.”
